CORRUPTION FREE INDIA  Every year in the last week of October or the first week of November to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel, the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) in a bid to create awareness among the public of the perils of corruption as well as to bring awareness on the importance of probity in public life organize a week-long Vigilance Awareness Week (VAW). During the rest of the year, the CVC monitors probity and transparency in the functioning of the Central Government departments as well as undertakings, but during this part of the year through the VAW programme, the CVC tries to get closer and bring awareness about CVC and its activities among people. The CVC also exhorts other Public Sector Undertakings to take such outreach programmes during this Vigilance Awareness Week (VAW) and almost all Central Government undertakings comply with this directive of the CVC.  CORRUPTION IN INDIA Corruption is  the misuse of power for personal gain . It can take many forms, such as bribery, embezzlement, influence peddling, nepotism, and patronage. Corruption undermines good governance, ethical values, and public trust. It is the abuse of entrusted power for private gain . Corruption erodes trust, weakens democracy, hampers economic development and further exacerbates inequality, poverty, social division and the environmental crisis. Majority of us are aware of the term “corruption” as it is frequently used in daily parlance. What is corruption?
