Image
TITLE: AUTOMATION IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY WHAT IS AUTOMATION? Automation describes a wide range of technologies that reduce human intervention in processes, mainly by predetermining decision criteria, subprocess relationships, and related actions, as well as embodying those predeterminations in machines.  Automation has been achieved by various means including mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, electronic devices, and computers, usually in combination. The benefit of automation includes labor savings, reducing waste, savings in electricity costs, savings in material costs, and improvements to quality, accuracy, and precision. Automation includes the use of various equipment and control systems such as machinery, processes in factories, boilers, and heat-treating ovens, switching on telephone networks, steering, stabilization of ships, aircra...

RACIAL DISCRIMINATION: THE SOUND OF SOCIAL PROFILING

Image
WHAT IS RACIAL DISCRIMINATION ? Racial discrimination is any discrimination against any individual on the basis of their race, ancestry, eth nicity, and/or skin color and hair texture. Individuals can discriminate by refusing to do business with, socialize with, or share resources with people of a certain group. Governments can discriminate explicitly in law, for example through policies of racial segregation, disparate enforcement of laws, or disproportionate allocation of resources. Some jurisdictions have anti-discrimination laws which prohibit the government or individuals from being discriminated based on race (and sometimes other factors) in various circumstances. Some institutions and laws use affirmative action to attempt to overcome or compensate for the effects of racial discrimination. In some cases, this is simply enhanced recruitment of members of underrepresented groups; in other cases, there are firm racial quotas. Opponents of strong remedies like quotas characterize th...

CORRUPTION

CORRUPTION IN INDIA Corruption is  the misuse of power for personal gain . It can take many forms, such as bribery, embezzlement, influence peddling, nepotism, and patronage. Corruption undermines good governance, ethical values, and public trust. It is the abuse of entrusted power for private gain . Corruption erodes trust, weakens democracy, hampers economic development and further exacerbates inequality, poverty, social division and the environmental crisis. Majority of us are aware of the term “corruption” as it is frequently used in daily parlance. What is corruption? Different pictures emerge in our mind.  The most plausible reference to the nature of corruption could be assessed in the words of Joe Bidden, 47th Vice President of the United States of America, “Corruption is just another form of tyranny.” The statement weighs corruption as equivalent to that of cruel and oppressive rule of government. However, for a common man/woman, corruption is a challenge, that ...

Exploitation of Mules by pilgrims

Pack Mule Welfare Abuses in Mountain Tourism  :- The suffering of pack mules and other working animals who labour in the tourism industry has largely gone unnoticed. It lies hidden, invisible to those who fail to see, tolerated by those who accept the excuses that the industry puts forward to justify its own failure to take these matters seriously … and take responsibility. This is especially true of the pack mule working in Morocco’s mountain tourism in industry. I have seen overloaded mules fall on steep mountain paths; I have seen old, emaciated mules forced to work because no one takes responsibility for establishing that they are fit to work. I have seen mules with blood in their mouths and sores on their backs carrying the suitcases of rich, unseeing and uncaring clients, up to expensive hotels in the Toubkal National Park, hotels that have made their fortune on pretending to be champions of responsible and sustainable tourism, hotels that do not have systems in place ...

MENTAL HEALTH

WHAT IS MENTAL HEALTH LITERACY ? Mental health literacy has received increasing attention as a useful strategy to promote early identification of mental disorders, reduce stigma and enhance help-seeking behaviors. However, despite the abundance of research on mental health literacy interventions, there is the absence of evaluations of current available mental health literacy measures and related psychometrics. We conducted a scoping review to bridge the gap. Methods We searched PubMed, PsycINFO, Embase, CINAHL, Cochrane Library, and ERIC for relevant studies. We only focused on quantitative studies and English publications, however, we didn’t limit study participants, locations, or publication dates. We excluded non-English studies, and did not check the grey literature (non peer-reviewed publications or documents of any type) and therefore may have missed some eligible measures. Results We located 401 studies that include 69 knowledge measures (14 validated), 111 stigma measures (65 v...
